Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Santa Teresa Costa Rica is a surf town with lots of culture, and if you are a foodie like me, you are going to the right place. Since this is a surf town and the waves are for all levels of surfers, sometimes. Please make sure you study surf etiquette and NEVER LET GO OF YOUR SURFBOARD!

Things You Need to Know:

  • During dry season bring a face mask and goggles (very dusty).

  • Need a 4x4 truck or car (lots of pot holes).

  • Watch out for traffic of all types (cars, trucks, 4 wheelers, dirt bikes & walkers).

  • You can rent surfboards & get lessons near the surf spots.

The Ferry

Getting to Santa Teresa from the capital San Jose is not as easy as going to Jaco Beach. There are two ways you can get there. One is driving the long way, which means you go north up and around and down the peninsula. I’ve never taken that way because of time and the roads are not great. The second way is to take a ferry and you can buy drinks and have a party.

Where To Stay

If you’re a surfer like me, you go directly to the surf and then settle into your place to stay. Do your research, there are many nice resorts and home rentals with some really sweet views of the Pacific Ocean. We like to go the AirBnB route and we were not disappointed. Check out the home we rented.

The Juice

Make sure you enjoy the sweet nectar of the rain forest. Many place sell different types of juice and I am sure you can find something different then your local juice shop. So, grab a cold one and go to the beach and catch some waves . Note, you are not allowed to take the rocks. But, who am I to tell you what to do.

Cabo Blanco

Wow, great beaches, fantastic views and if you like hiking through the rain forest this place is for you. Remember your sunscreen.

El Facon

So the food in Santa Teresa is totally amazing. You can get your traditional Costa Rican meal, but you can also find some outstanding food from other cultures that have settled in the area. I wanted to highlight El Facon for the professional service and super tasty food. I also can’t forget to mention the selection of craft beer they have to offer.

The Bakery

Outstanding food and again these people go the extra mile to make the best meals with the ingredients provided, which are amazing. You definitely need to stop by for a delightful meal.

Banana Beach

Very cool bar & hotel that host concerts and surf contest every Monday night. It is a great place to chill and watch the sunset and they also make a great bonfire. Prepare yourself for a great time.
